About
Philosophyhelmet is a site dedicated to translating academic research into philosophy that you can live by. The co-authors of the blog, Alex Sparrow and Tony Landreth, have had a long-standing interest in using philosophical methods to guide important life-choices. We focus on answering questions of how to lead a life that is both self-empowering and empowering of others.
Alex and Tony went to graduate school in philosophy together at the University of Cincinnati. Alex focused on political philosophy and Tony focused on philosophy of science, but they were both interested in a wide range of philosophical topics. After graduate school, they looked for some projects that they could work on together to continue sharing philosophical ideas. Philosophyhelmet is one of those projects.
While Philosophyhelmet blog posts are short and focused on addressing specific philosophical questions, we also offer lengthier material that can be accessed in our Reading Room for free. For example, if you want to know more about the nature and history of democratic institutions, we offer a translation of the Girondin Constitution that you can browse in the Reading Room. The Girondin Constitution is a historical example of what a more democratic constitution looks like.
