About: Tony Landreth
I’m a postdoctoral researcher at UCLA. I work in a neurobiology lab, sometimes running behavioral experiments, but my main job (my income job) is to develop an applied philosophy of neuroscience, to find methods to accelerate the pace of discovery in the study of the mechanisms of learning and memory. My PhD is in philosophy–I was trained at U. Cincinnati’s Philosophy and Sciences Program. For the past couple of years, I’ve been trying to cultivate a coherent, thorough, applied approach to doing philosophy, to figure out how to apply what I’ve learned as a philosophy student to basic life choices: How does a person meet his/her needs? What are the best ways to form reasonable beliefs about things that matter? How do we avoid illusions? How do I live without doing harm? I try to approach these questions with reflection and data.
When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my wife, Kat, train in MMA (mainly jiu-jitsu and Thai boxing), run, hike, or climb.
